Well this has been a ride hasn’t it?! This time 5 years ago I’d become obsessed with this thing called Youtube and was following beauty bloggers left right and centre. I was consuming so much video content and filling the cravings between video uploads by devouring everyone’s blog posts too. It probably took about 6 months before I hopped on the band wagon and signed up to Blogger.
I’d spend hours thinking of blog names, googling all kinds of random words for inspiration whilst trying to decide on my niche. This is where I discovered a blog called Dorkface by Jemma by googling things like ‘dork blog’ who eventually became a friend and helped me through my breakup and took me to A&E at 3am when I had a huge asthma attack….
I eventually settled on the name Sweet Allure because it sounded vague and pretty, but didn’t specifically talk to one particular niche. I bought the domain name soon after and spent ages bugging more ‘techy’ people at work to help me set up everything I needed to get going.
Fast forward 5 years later and my niche has changed from Beauty to more travel/lifestyle. You’ve seen me through an engagement, marriage and seperation. Buying a house. Changing 2 jobs. Moving to 2 different places in the country and a handful of flats. Countless adventures abroad. Promotions. New relationships. 2 new tattoo’s. Almost 900 sales on Etsy and countless internet friends gained along the way.
And that’s not the end of the story. Although the journey of this blog didn’t turn out as I imagined it to. I had a creative break for a year or so after the break down of my marriage and didn’t know if I’d ever really return to blogging. But i’m always thinking about it in the background somewhere. I still read blogs all the time and support all my friends who continue to write theirs. I think stepping back and realising that my interests had changed and re-focusing my blog content to accomodate that definitely helped re-kindle the love for it.
The problem I have with creating content now is that I have so many photos that need editing and sorting that I can’t keep up! I’ve actually been really proud and happy of the travel content I’ve been sharing recently which can only be a good thing, right?!
The next chapter…
So you’re probably wondering what the plan is for the next 5 years? Well the answer to that is that I don’t really have any plans. I’ve made too many plans and goals in the past that put too much pressure on enjoying this space. All I know is that I still enjoying creating content and sharing it with you, my readers, so i’ll continue to do so as and when the moment calls. The dream would be to have some more sponsored content in the future but honestly, if that doesn’t happen I’m still going to be sharing content eitherway!
My blog will always be my space to escape and share with the world the things I love to do and see. I’d call myself lucky to have a creative space to share myself with the world and engage with like minded people.
Because I don’t have any wilds plans for the future, I’d like to take the opportunity to share some of my favourite blog posts from the past.
I’m currently finishing up the last in a 3 part series about our 15 day road trip around Scotland last year. It’s an absolutely stunning country and completely blew me away with views and things to see and do!
Earlier this year I had the privelegde of working on my first sponsored travel post with National Express. Bristol was such a delightful surprise weekend away, we loved it. Such a chilled place and so much history and things to do! Highly recommend the city for a weekend break!
As part of my stepping back and refocusing on topics that interest me, one of those topics is money. I’ve paid off debts, travelled a lot and managed to save money in the last few years and I’m interested on talking about my financial journey. I wrote Small ways to make your money go further earlier this year and I plan writing a lot more about money in the future. So if there is anything you want me to chat about or give tips on, let me know!
Then in complete contrast to being an adult…I want to plug my Disneyland Paris post from my 30th birthday last year. It was my first time in a Disney park and it was probably the best day of my life, so this post will always be special to me!
I want to say a big thank you for those of you that were around from the beginning of this journey or for those that have read my blog recently. I wouldn’t be here without your constant support on and offline. I hope I’m still writing in 5 years time!
If there is anything you’d like me to write about or cover new topics on my blog please let me know!
