4 True Crime Podcasts You Should Listen To.

The other day I realised that I listen to true crime podcasts pretty much every single day, I guess I’m kinda obsessed with murder?! To some of you that’s probably really weird, but for the true crime lovers out there, stay sexy and don’t get murdered.

I’ve always been obsessed with true crime, for as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated with how their minds work and what drives them to start killing. It’s weird but I’m into it and since listening to true crime I’ve found so many more people who are just as interested in this as me! I wanted to share with you my top 4 favourite podcasts that I rotate all the time. I’m going to start with the podcasts that are more for beginners and then build up to the more gruesome ones.

Serial

You know how everyone in the world has talked about Serial? Well I finally gave in and listened to it a couple of weeks ago. I can totally understand why everyone was so obsessed with it and why it got so many people into true crime. It’s easy to listen to, interesting and delves into the case really well. It’s definitely one to start with if you’re new to the genre but it’s worth the hype. The question is, do you think he’s guilty or not? Personally, I think he’s guilty.

My favourite murder

This is such a fun podcast and I’m so glad I stumbled upon it on Spotify. It’s a super casual format where two true crime lovers just chat about their favourite murders. It’s fun and easy to listen to and isn’t super serious. This is also one to listen to if you’re interested in serial killers but don’t want too much of the gory details. Stay sexy and don’t get murdered.

Last Podcast On The Left

This is run by 3 comedians who take a topic and go hella into detail about it. They do multi-episodes on killers, cults and everything in-between, you’d really struggle not to find a topic you’re interested in. They really do the research, so not only do you learn things, they also make it funny and full of personality. I listened to a great mini-series on Scientology by them too if that kind of thing interests you!

Sword and Scale

Sword and Scale is actually one of the first true crime podcasts I listened to and I have to say, since listening to a lot more of them, I definitely started at the deep end! This really is very well produced, researched and detailed, honestly isn’t for the faint hearted as there are very detailed reports and even 911 calls played. I think of myself as a bit of a veteran with true crime podcasts but I’ve had to pause this one a few times from feeling a bit overwhelmed and sick. So as much as I whole heartedly recommend this podcast, I’d definitely take caution before delving in (or reading the episode description before hand).

If you’re just as obsessed as I am and have some other podcasts to recommend to me, please please let me know so I can join you! Also please let me know if you have a listen to any of these podcasts and what you think, as I’d love to know in the comments below.

I haven’t heard of Sword and Scale, but sounds intriguing! I’m slowly making my way through My Favorite Murder and absolutely LOVE it. Thanks for the list!

  • From a UK perspective, I’d recommend They Walk Among Us – it’s so very obviously on a lower budget than the American ones you mention, but that almost adds to the creepiness. Lots of familiar cases on it, but similarly lots of stuff I’ve never heard of.

Criminal remains my favourite true crime podcast with a social conscience – and if you’re into cult stuff, there’s a podcast I’ve been listening to on the Heaven’s Gate massacre and the presenter/researcher was actually in a cult himself, which adds so much depth to it.
