When blogging we often look to the future, constantly looking to improve and striving for the perfect flat lay image for our blog posts, but we often forget to look back and see how far we’ve come. I’ve seen a few posts cropping up recently doing a comparison of blogs posts from back in the day and comparing them to the blog posts you have now and I just knew this was something I would enjoy doing, so I wanted to give it a go. Sometimes, we need those little reminders of how well we’re doing with our blogging.
After spending some time looking back on my first ever blog posts, I was actually really shocked how not embarrassed I was by them. I thought I’d be cringing left, right and center at my photography or my topics but nope, I’m not embarrassed by any of them. I guess I’ve always been true to what I believe in, which is something! What I did notice however was the type of topics I talk about have changed dramatically. I used to write a lot of beauty reviews and to my surprise, a lot more about fashion.
I think over time I’ve become a little bit self conscious about myself, more so than I thought, as I was happily snapping away full body photo’s for outfit posts but they quickly fizzled out and they’re banished from my blog over the last year. This makes me sad as I know my self confidence has plummeted over the past year or two and I’m finally getting to a place again where I want to change that, but more to come on that in another post soon about my fitness plans. So that’s something I want to change for sure this year, I want to share more fashion posts with you because I really like my style and I enjoy reading other people’s style posts. The blog post I liked the most from my old fashion ones was this one, A week in outfits, which I’m tempted to start again!
Another thing that has changes quite a lot is the lack of ‘reviews’ on my blog. I’m sure I sound like a broken record by now but after blogging for about 6 months I made a vow to myself to not just blog about stuff I’d bought. I have to say I’ve been true to this, although I am thinking of occasionally sneaking in one here and there, as it would be nice to talk about cruelty free beauty products again. I like shaking things up so why not, right?
I have and will always continue to talk about film and TV on my blog, that was always something I wanted to talk about since the beginning, so that hasn’t change, however I think now, I also like to think more deeply about what I’m watching and I’m excited to share more in depth article like my Has Binge Watching Changed Our Viewing Habits? along side more straight up viewing suggestions from Netflix.
I think the one thing I’ve learnt from looking back at my earlier blog posts, is that I’ve always clearly talked about the things I’ve been interested in and have been true to myself, which I’m really happy with. I’ve also learnt that I used to write a lot more about the things I was up to and sharing more personal stuff going on, my blog used to be a lot more casual and I didn’t always take it so seriously, so maybe this is something I need to re-incorporate into my blog more.
Before I go I wanted to say I think it’s a brilliant idea for you look back on your old blog posts and see how far you’ve come! You may be able to re-kindle some love with topics you’d forgotten all about, or be surprised by how non-cringe your post actually are! If you do, I’d love to hear what you thought about looking back at your old posts, so let me know if you do!
