I know we haven’t quite hit the official half-way point for 2017, but I wanted to take a look at the blogging goals I set myself at the beginning of the year. I quite like the idea of looking at my progress but also I’m glad to be taking the chance to re-evaluate and adjust my goals for the rest of the year. Sometimes it’s good to refresh and mix up your goals a little throughout the year, it helps keep you on track and shake things up to get to that end target!
I set myself 10 goals for 2017, most of which I’ve actually already achieved so far this year. I’ve been scheduling tweets pretty much everyday this year so far and have seen my page views grow well because of it. I’ve also managed to stick to my 3 posts a week schedule, which has been tough going with my work commitments/moving house and job and everything else, but I’ve done it and I’m super proud to keep getting content out there. Not to mention that I’ve also been experimenting with the type of content I’ve been creating, including poetry and talking about 5 video games that shaped my childhood.
Although I’m finding it hard to keep on top of everything and recording, I started vlogging on my YouTube channel. I want to make regular vlogs for my channel, maybe I’ll do weekly vlogs? As that seems like it can be more manageable and my daily life is too boring to daily vlog! But the point is, I started it, despite how scared I was of starting!
It’s safe to say I’ve been busy working hard on the goals I set myself at the start of this year but I think it’s time to add a few different ones into the mix, so I’ve set myself 6 new ones below.
1. Reach 2,000 followers on Instagram.
If you read my recent post, Dear Instagram, I still love you, then you’ll know I changed up the way I used Instagram. I wanted to make it a platform I loved by uploading only images I was proud of and using it as a platform for me rather than other people. That being said, I’ve been creeping ever closer to 2k for awhile now and it would just mean so much that I reach this goal whilst super happy with what I’ve been uploading.
2. Reaching 5,000 followers on Twitter.
Twitter is my favourite platform and I’m basically addicted to it. I’ve been trying to be more active on it recently, despite my time consuming job and I’ve fallen back in love interacting with you lovely lot. When I started my blog, I would look at people I admire with thousands of followers and think I’d never be so lucky to reach those figures. Now I’m in this position and I feel so lucky to have such an amazing following, friends and community. Hitting 5k would be an amazing achievement for me and with me currently sat at 4.3k its totally possible it’s going to be happening soon, eek! I’m not normally about counting numbers, but I feel like 5k is a big milestone for anyone and it’s okay to be excited about it.
3. Staring my Podcast.
Film and TV is a huge passion in my life. I spend almost all of my spare time watching TV and Film, listening to podcasts on my favourite shows and reading articles. It’s something I care a great deal about and would love to talk about it on a platform I can share with other people. I’ve been working behind the scenes to get this goal started, I’ve already got myself an awesome co-host, a podcast name and a list of topics we want to talk about. I just need to buy myself a good microphone, get together with my lovely co-host and have some quality chat time. I’ll be letting you all know when things are happening with this so keep an eye out!
4. Write articles not just for my blog.
I have some topics that I am really passionate about, as previously mentioned and I would love to be able to write well put together articles/pieces for websites that are not just my own. I’d like to be able to find my voice on these topics and get my work out there into the world. Even if I just write one article I’m super happy with and get it published online somewhere, I’d be extremely happy.
5. Launch more products.
Although I thoroughly enjoy painting for my ever growing Etsy Shop, I have so many other ideas I want to bring to the table and it’s finding time to get my ideas together and do them justice. Whenever I talk about my ideas on twitter I get such amazing feedback from everyone and I want to be able to be proud of the products I’m releasing into the world. So this is something that is always in the back of my mind.
6. Grow my email list to 250.
Last but not least, is growing my email subscription list. Growing an email list is one of the main goals as someone wanting to turn their blog into a business. My list currently stands at around 140 emails, which I’m super proud of at the minute, but I need to put a lot more effort into growing it again. I think my initial aim of 250 is a perfectly reasonable goal to aim for and I can adjust this as each target is met. I also need to create the content and products to go along with this to help the list grow, so I have a lot of hard work ahead of me!
Although I’ve not set myself any really whacky goals, I’ve set realistic ones I think I can achieve over the next few months! Hopefully I’ll be writing another post like this sooner rather than later, meaning I’ve reached a bunch of these goals!
