There are always those sayings floating around about how we never have enough time in life to do the things we want, or how time will fly by so quickly, we always regret not doing certain things. I’m not really sure why but approaching the big 3-0 has me thinking about all the things I want to do. As someone who is quite creative, there is always something new I want to learn. I’ve decided to share my top 5 creative skills I want to learn in hope that it makes me actually try them…or encourage others to go for it too!
1. Learn to play the piano.
Piano is possibly the most beautiful instrument on the planet, it relaxes and calms me down so much. Whenever I hear an amazing piece I just get covered in goosebumps. I would love to learn to play the piano but because I have such small hands it might be a problem.. but that doesn’t mean I won’t try! This one is certainly a long-term goal compared to some of the others but it’s something I desperately want to learn before it’s too late.
Photography has always been a passion of mine, right from the first moment I got my Polaroid camera for my 11th birthday. Although I love experimenting and playing around with my camera’s, I’d really love to take some courses and get to learn how to use my camera correctly. It would be such a dream to do photography as part of my career one day, including helping other bloggers out. 3. Learning to sing.
I’ve always wanted to be able to sing, I don’t think I’ve gone a day in my life where I’m not singing something to myself. Although I know I don’t have the most amazing voice on the planet, I think I have something to work with. I know I’ll never be Adele but I’d like to be able to hold a note or sing a tune and by that I of course mean be able to belt out a track from La La Land without sounding like someone trapped their finger in a vice..
4. Learning to work digitally with my artwork.
As a creative, I’ve always been one of those artists that prefers working with my hands. I love knitting and cross-stitch and painting, but with the age we live in, I’d love to learn to work digitally with my art and expand my knowledge. I love the rawness of water-colours, but sometimes when you make a mistake it ruins the entire piece…whereas on the computer I can just press undo! ha ha. I bought myself a graphics tablet last year and haven’t put nearly enough time into learning how to use it and Photoshop, so I need to dedicate some time to properly learning and developing my creativity.
5. Film making.
As someone who is completely and utterly obsessed with everything to do with film and television, I’d love to attempt to make something myself one day. Even if it’s just for myself, I’d love to learn how to shoot some short films, edit it, direct it and learn how to cut and all that technical stuff. Maybe in some way it’ll help me understand just how much effort goes into making all the things I love to watch, even more.
Some of these can certainly be learnt sooner, like the learning to use my graphics tablet, but I know some of these are for the long term! But I dream of the day I can just sit down and play the piano or belt out a decent song!
Let me know what creative things you’d love to learn in the comments below, as I’d love to know! and potentially add some new ones to my list!
