I’ve been around in the blogging world for almost 2 years now and it’s taken me this long to start talking about the much geekier side of me. I’m not really sure why it’s taken this long, maybe I’m worried that if I share, no-one will care? Or maybe talking about it will lessen my passion for it? But it really is time I want to talk more about the nerd in me.
I am 1000% nerdy, geeky, or whatever it is the kids are calling it now days, I always have and I always will be. I love comic books, video games, board games, reading, anime and TV shows. I recently spoke about the 5 video games that defined my childhood and it had really nice feedback, so I thought I’d delve more into this side of me on the blog.
I haven’t really worked out how I’m going to share things with you yet, I’m sure i’ll work out some way of doing it, but today I just wanted to talk about the things I’ve been enjoying recently and what I’m looking forward to on the geeky side of things, as I can’t quite seem to fit them in elsewhere on the blog.
Life is Strange (PC Game)
I downloaded this game ages ago but only recently got around to sitting down and playing it. This is an episodic game, like the Tell Tale games so you can dip in and out without too much problem. It’s about a girl that discovers she can rewind time which also means she needs to save the world…of course! I really enjoyed playing this, it was a nice way to ease me back into playing more games after a long break and I ended up binge playing it over a weekend and completing it. Although you have a lot of free reign over the choices you make, it ultimate comes down to two endings, which was a little disappointing! So if you’ve played this let me know what you thought of it!
I saw the film last week on a spare of the moment cinema trip and oh.my.gosh. I’ve been obsessed with the X-Men since the moment my biology teacher told me in science class I was a mutant because of my heterochromia and I haven’t looked back. I didn’t know anything about this film going in and I thought it was so well done. It’s very dark and much more violent/brutal than the usual X-Men stuff, but I really enjoyed it, you do see another side to Wolverine that hasn’t been portrayed before. I’m interested in checking out the Logan comics now, so I need to research what to get!
Theme Hospital (PC Game)
No, we didn’t just go back in a time machine to 1997. But I saw someone mention this to me in a twitter chat recently and the nostalgia hit me hard. After doing a little digging online I found you can still buy the game on ORIGIN and immediately coughed up the £4 to play it. I started playing the campaign missions and my god, hearing the receptionist making her witty remarks made me so happy. The game play is pretty basic, the controls are a little awkward and there isn’t much depth to it, but I’m still going to play this occasionally and see if I can complete the campaign, I remember it getting really hard with earthquakes and stuff!
Watching Live Streams of The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild.
I’m not a massive Nintendo fan, so I won’t be buying the Switch however, like mentioned in my 5 games that defined my childhood post, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my all time favourite game ever. Finding out that this was basically in the same story line but set in the future meant that I just had to watch it. Ever since it came out I’ve been watching endless hours of streams on Twitch and I mean, hours. I spent at least 15 hours last weekend watching in awe. It looks fucking amazing and I think it totally deserves all the raving reviews it’s received…. I instantly went and opened Twitch after writing this sentence to see if my fav streamers are live playing it…addiction is real people.
Mass Effect Andromeda release.
I was aware that this game was coming out soon but when my friend told me it was THIS MONTH I lost my shit and pre-ordered it. Mass Effect was my life at uni. I spent 100’s of hours alone in my dorm room (cue the violins) playing this whilst everyone else was going out getting pissed. I cannot wait to play this and it’s the first real game I’ve played on console for awhile. I’m gonna stock up on snacks and everything and spend some quality time in space.
What geeky things have you been up to recently? What are you looking forward to? I’d love to get to know what you guys enjoy, have been playing or are excited about!
