Christmas this year felt different and distant, you can get a better idea of why by reading this post. However we were lucky enough to spend the festive period with family, surrounded by plenty of food, drink and love! Nick and I decided to scale back Christmas this year and just buy each other a few little gifts. We are fortunate enough to have the things we want all year round, so Christmas time is for little treats.
This year I decided to make a list of things I wanted. Giving a list is easier, I don’t end up disappointed and people don’t waste money on things I don’t need. So if you like reading about books, make-up and DVD’s/films, then read on!
One of my goals is to read more, so I indulged on my list to Santa and asked for a few books this year. The two at the top was Bloom by Estée Lalonde and Humans of New York: Stories by Brandon Stanton. I read both of these books in one session, if that isn’t a positive sign then what is! If you love watching Estee’s vidoes, then the book was a deeper insight into her life. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I cried multiple times, so highly recommend it! As for Humans of New York: Stories, it’s one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever read. I’ve followed HONY on Facebook for years and reading the stories of people’s lives is engrossing. Everyone’s walk of life is so different and learning the stories of success, happiness and the struggles, makes me realise how important it is to be kinder.
I also received The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russon. I look forward to delving into these over the next couple of weeks! I’ll be back to catching the bus to work, so it’s a great time to read.
Next on my wishlist was a couple of beauty items, if Christmas isn’t the time to indulge or experiment, then when is?! I saw the new eye-shadow palette’s from Zoeva and fell in love immediately, I just had to have one. I decided to go for the Cocoa Blend palette, with it’s warm and shimmery shades. I’m terrible at eye make-up but this makes me excited to experiment. I hope it gives me the inspiration to try new make-up looks this coming year!
The other make-up item I received was a back-up of Charlotte Tilbury’s The Classic Sophia eyeliner pencil. I received this last year, its a really subtle brown pencil liner with tiny gold specks in it. It’s beautiful and I use it all the time, so I’m really happy I have a spare now!
Some of my favourite gifts were DVD’s and box-sets. If you’ve read my blog for awhile you’ll know I’m a bit of a TV and film nerd. Due to our strict saving this year for the wedding, we didn’t get to see as many films as I would have liked. One of those was Finding Dory so I was really happy to see Nick had bought it for me. I also acquired Now You See Me 2, Friends complete collection and New Girl Season 5 box-set. I’m already about 4 seasons into Friends, I’m so happy I can watch it whenever I like now!
Then the last few little bits were gingerbread themed. I’ve become a little obsessed with gingerbread men recently, they’re just so cute! I got these cute socks with gingerbread men on them, aren’t they adorable? I also received a gingerbread man Christmas tree decoration, I can’t wait to use this next year and potentially get him some friends to keep him company on the tree.
So, there you have it! All of the lovely goodies I was given for Christmas this year. I’m extremely grateful for everything I receive, as always and I hope you enjoy having a little nosy! I’d love to know what you got for Christmas this year, so let me now in the comments!
