2016: 16 Good Things That Happened This Year.

For some 2016 has been one to sweep under the carpet and pretend it never happened. I have to admit it’s been a mixture of highs and lows for me too, but I wanted to try and leave 2016 on a positive note. Today I’m going to be talking about 16 good things that happened to me in 2016 so I can move into 2017 with hope, love and ambition.

2016 16 Good Things That Happened This Year goals conclusion end of year sea landscape

1. Deciding 2016 was the year to get married.
This was a pretty exciting decision of the year and possibly the most stressful one too! It all happened in the cold dark evening of January that 2016 would be the yearPinterest browsing, google searches and appointment making became the norm.

2. Getting my 3rd tattoo.
I’ve always loved tattoo’s and wanted to add another piece of ink to my small collection for awhile. Earlier this year I decided to take the plunge with an arm tattoo, I fell for this wildflower piece immediately and booked myself an appointment.

3. Buying our new sofa.
This might seem really boring to some of you but I absolutely love my new sofa and buying it was an exciting moment for me. I’m obsessed with anything interior design and it felt like the staple pieces I needed to really start making our house feel like home.

4. Holiday to Cyprus.
Just over a year ago now, Nick’s mum retired to sunny Cyprus. We spent two weeks eating, drinking and exploring the island. As a result of our visit we finally had my engagement resized, no more worrying about it slipping off my finger! If you’d like to see what we got up to I wrote some photo diary posts after we got back!

5. Blog’s 1st Birthday.
It still only feels like yesterday I started my little blog but this year Sweet Allure hit it’s first birthday. I’ve been so happy with the development of my blog and I can’t wait to see where the next few years take me!

6. Rediscovering Podcasts.
This is a strange one, but earlier this year I rediscovered the wonders of Podcasts. I really enjoy listening to them, they inspire my writing and art work, or cheer me up when I’m feeling a little lowThere really is a Podcast for any mood! I even wrote a post on my current top 5 podcasts, which reminds me I need to write another one asap.

7. Re-learning to drive.
One of my new years resolutions was to get back in the driving seat and re-learn to drive. I hadn’t been behind the wheel since I passed in my teens and really wanted to get a little independence. It’s been almost a year and I haven’t driven as much as I would have liked but I feel much more confident on the road. I really am happy I decided to start driving again.

8. Learning that it’s not all about the numbers.
Although blogging often revolves around numbers, I’ve learnt that you really need passion for your art to push forward in this field. I love my blog, it’s developed into more than just a hobby, so learning to worry less about the numbers is an ongoing venture.

9. Owning our first house for a year.
July this year marked a year of owning our own home. It’s flown by really quickly and has been a pretty big learning curve. The house is no-where near where I thought it would be after all this time but it’s ours. I like having a design project to work on and making it feel ‘homely‘.

10. Opening my Etsy Store.
Starting up my Etsy Store was one of the awesome surprises that happened in 2016 that I really wasn’t expecting. It all began when I shared some of my art journal images with you in a blog post. As a result I’d set up an Etsy store selling my prints. It’s been an amazing little adventure that I can’t wait to put more of my heart and soul into next year. I’d like to say a huge thank you to every single one of you for your support, I honestly can’t express how thankful I am.

11. The Girl Gang Event.
I’ve been behind TheGirlGang since the minute I heard about it and when I got a spot for the event, I couldn’t wait to meet so many of you lovely people I talk to on Twitter. It was so lovely to hang out with people, not only at the event but for drinks and food after. I have to pinch myself sometimes that I have so many cool online friends. I really hope I can come along to more events in the future and meet so many more of you!

12. My hen do.
I had such a lovely time catching up with friends! We went to a lovely spa for a massage, out for some cocktails, amazing food and finished hanging out in the hotel room sharing stories. I miss my friends down south so much, it was such a nice moment to catch up with them.

13. Getting Married.
This is pretty much a given right? Getting married was completely bonkers, I never thought at 27 I’d be a wife or get married. It still feels like this magical day that whizzed past far too quickly but it was as perfect as I had imagined. If you’d like to read my wedding posts, you can find all my wedding posts here.

14. The Mini-moon.
After the big wedding weekend, we escaped to a little cottage in the middle of no-where for a few days to relax. Despite having flu immediately after the wedding, it was so nice to just spend time together and explore the countryside. I wish we’d booked more than just a couple of days away but we had to get back to the real world eventually! I’m looking forward to visiting again in the future.

15. The City Girls Event.
Earlier in the year my good friend Holly asked me to join TheCityGirls team and of course I said yes. I’ve been wanting to be more involved in the blogging community and planning my first event was a challenge I had set myself. My first event went really well, we were so happy! I can’t wait to plan more over the coming year, so keep your eyes peeled for those!

16. Christmas by the Sea.
Finally, this year Nick and I are spending Christmas with family up north in Bamburgh. I’m writing this post sat on the sofa watching Harry Potter with a cup of tea and munching on chocolate. It’s pretty, quiet and cosy, just how I like it. It’s the perfect way to spend Christmas after a hectic year, giving us the chance to relax and enjoy it before the whirlwind that could be 2017!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you the happiest new year! Please let me know what good things have happened to you this year, I’d love to know in the comments!
